What are plugins? A plugin is a piece of software that you can add to your website and it contains a group of functions. They are created to make it easier for WordPress users to add different features to their websites. And the best part is that you don’t have to know any coding to get them or make them work – it’s all embedded in the plugin!
So, what types of plugins are there? There are a lot. Pick an area and you can be sure there is a plugin for that. For starters, there are thousands of free WordPress plugins that are designed to improve your site in lots of ways. And if you have more of a budget to spend on your website, there are lots of great plugins that you can buy as well. (You don’t need a huge budget; many plugins aren’t that expensive).
What are some good plugins to have?
As mentioned, there are a lot of plugins to choose from in WordPress, in 2021 there are over 58 000 different ones. This can be a bit overwhelming and as a new user it might be hard to know which plugins are going to be worth adding to your site.

- MonsterInsights – a Google Analytics plugin for WordPress. You want to connect your website to Google Analytics, this way you can see exactly how people find and use your website. You also get important stats straight to your WordPress dashboard.
- OptinMonster – helps you get more email subscribers and sales. With this plugin, you can convert abandoning website visitors into customers and email subscribers.
- Pretty Links Pro – if you are an affiliate marketer, or business owner and want to create short URLs in WordPress, the Pretty Links Pro plugin, is a gem. Manage all your affiliate links easily and smoothly.
- WooCommerce – if your goal is to create an online store with your WordPress site, WooCommerce is the most popular option to get you started thanks to its powerful features.
This list is broad and mentions plugins that work for many different types of WordPress sites, for example, e-commerce. If you have created a site with a focus on organic traffic and SEO, which is our focus at ADM, you might wanna focus more on the following SEO plugins.

An SEO plugin for competitor analysis. This all-in-one plugin lets you analyse your competitor’s strategies within both marketing and content set up, and you can also see the keywords they rank for, what pages get the most traffic and what backlinks they have to their site, among other things.
